Conservation District ProgramsAgricultural Land Preservation Pennsylvania has the fastest growing agricultural land preservation program in the nation. Over 160,000 acres on 1,294 farms have been preserved since the inception of the program in 1989. Pennsylvania currently has 50 county-based farmland protection programs. Conservation districts provide direct administrative support for these programs in 15 counties. In 35 counties, conservation districts provide indirect support services such as conservation planning and annual farm inspections.
