Conservation District ProgramsEnvironmental Education Conservation districts believe that education is the key to effective pollution prevention efforts. Their programs target a wide variety of audiences including farmers and other landowners, local officials, watershed groups, teachers and students. Some of the environmental educational activities that conservation districts are involved with include the Envirothon (a comprehensive environmental education experience for youth), inservice-training sessions for teachers (including Project WET, Project WILD, Project Learning Tree and Project Food Land and People), poster and essay contests, and youth conservation camps. In addition, Environmental/conservation awareness is provided to adults through group presentations, conservation field days, technical workshops and special training events in areas such as forest management, pond management, and erosion and sedimentation control. Several conservation districts also have developed environmental education centers and training sites. |
