New Exhibit Promotes PEACCE

A new exhibit to help explain and publicize the PA Environmental and Agricultural Conservation Certification of Excellence (PEACCE) Program was recently developed by the PEACCE Board of Directors. The PACD, one of the three member organizations that comprise the PEACCE Board, assisted by providing services to layout and create the new exhibit. The PEACCE exhibit is available for conservation districts to borrow to help spread the word about the program.

The PEACCE exhibit explains the program's mission, components, and benefits to producers.

The PEACCE Program promotes the use of agricultural practices that enhance responsible environmental stewardship and recognizes agricultural producers who meet the requirements for certification established by the PEACCE program.

To participate in the program, a producer completes an environmental awareness course and an on-farm assessment and environmental review. The conservation district then completes a comprehensive evaluation checklist to verify that the producer has met PEACCE requirements. This information is forwarded to the PEACCE Board of Directors for review and certification. After the farm is certified, conservation districts perform a status review every three years to verify the PEACCE standards and recommended practices are being maintained. Upon certification, the producer receives a sign to erect on the property. This is a good public relations tool for districts to promote environmentally safe agriculture.

In addition to the exhibit, PACD has brochures on the PEACCE program. Call PACD at 717-238-PACD (7223) to reserve the exhibit or request brochures.
