Districts Meet with McGinty
On May 1, conservation district leaders met with DEP's
Acting Secretary, Kathleen McGinty, in Harrisburg. Twenty-five conservation
district representatives met with the Acting Secretary for two hours
discussing conservation district issues and learning about her priorities
for the Department.
PACD President Ron Rohall provided an introduction on the Conservation
Partnership and how it works through cooperation, trust, interdependence
and mutual support. PACD Executive Director Susan Fox spoke about
the scope and diversity of conservation district programs.
The following conservation district representatives led the discussion
on the following issues:
1. Leadership Development Initiatives - Donna Fisher, Manager,
Blair Conservation District
2. Conservation District Fund Allocation Program and other Funding
Sources - Don Robinson, Manager, Lancaster Conservation District
3. Conservation Education and Outreach Needs - Jarrett Miller,
Chairman, Erie Conservation District
4. Timely and Effective Enforcement of Environmental Rules and Regulations
- Ernie Tarner, Manager, Franklin Conservation District
5. DEP Conservation District Field Representatives and Other DEP Staff
Support - George Hildenbrandt, Director, Centre Conservation District
6. Ohio River Basin Watershed Opportunities and Challenges - Greg
Phillips, Manager, Westmoreland Conservation District
7. Oil and Gas Well Permitting Issues - Porter DuVall, Director,
Jefferson Conservation District
PACD Represented at State Envirothon Competition
The 20th annual state Envirothon competition was held
May 19-20 at Penn State's Mont Alto campus. Over 320 students from
64 counties competed while enjoying the gorgeous weather.
Representing PACD, an event sponsor, were President Ron Rohall and
Communication Specialist Shannon Eberly. Ron and Shannon both served
as judges in the voluntary oral component which is not included in
the overall competition score. Ron also volunteered for the second
day of competition.
PACD congratulates all the participants and advisors of the Envirothon
competition across the state on a job well done. Congratulations also
to the overall champions from North East High School in Erie County.
