GoodShop for PACD

GoodSearch, the search engine that earns money for PACD each time you use it (see News & Notes September 2007), also offers Internet shoppers the opportunity to earn money for PACD while they shop. Using GoodShop costs you nothing and using it is easy.

To use GoodShop to benefit PACD follow these steps:

1. Go to http://www.goodshop.com
2. In the "who do you goodsearch for" box, type Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts or PACD.
3. Click "Verify."
4. Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts - PACD (Harrisburg, PA) should appear in the box.
5. Using the links on this page, shop at your favorite store online and the retailer will donate a percentage of your sale to PACD. The money you earn for PACD will automatically be added to the PACD account. The amount donated is different for each retailer but it averages approximately 3% of the total sale and can go up to 20% and beyond (the percentage donated is indicated below the merchants logo).

We hope you will use GoodShop for all of your Internet shopping from now on and tell your friends, family and co-workers so they start using GoodShop to support PACD's mission of supporting, enhancing and promoting Pennsylvania's conservation districts and their programs.

All funds generated will boost non-restrictive income and therefore used for such activities as increased lobbying efforts, the PACD Capital Fund, the PACD Endowment Fund, etc.

"Water is Life" Chosen as NACD Poster Contest Theme

The theme of the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) Annual Poster Contest is "Water is Life." Each conservation district will be responsible for judging at the county level and for recognizing their local winners. The district may send the county's first place winning posters, one per division, to the PACD office along with an entry form for each student signed by a parent or guardian. PACD will facilitate the state level judging and send those winners on to the national competition.

New for this year, NACD has tools available for promoting the conservation district's local poster contest including a flyer, PowerPoint presentation, and information on National Visual Arts Standards. These tools can be downloaded from http://nacdnet.org/education/contests/poster/.
Poster contest entries must be received by the PACD office no later than June 30, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. For more information, visit http://www.pacd.org/about/poster_contest_rules.htm.

Sue Moon Receives NACDE Award

For her service to the Somerset County Conservation District (SCCD) and the Northeast Association of Conservation District Employees (NACDE), assistant district manager Susan Moon was awarded the 2007 NACDE Outstanding Conservation District Employee Award - Local.

In the twenty years she has been with the district, Moon held the positions of clerk, administrative assistant, assistant manager, and interim manager. From 1999 through 2006, Moon handled the printing and mailing of the NACDE's newsletter. "This was an invaluable service to the Association, and we certainly appreciated her and her district's willingness to handle that responsibility for us," said Rick Mickowski, NACDE president.

"The award was very much an unexpected surprise. The effort I contributed to the publication of the outstanding newsletter was minimal. Everyone who took the time to submit articles and prepare the publication should be commended. Their effort produced a welcomed, quality newsletter for district employees to showcase projects and share well deserved successes. I appreciate NACDE's recognition," said Moon. To recognize her contributions, NACDE presented her with an engraved mantel clock.
