Susquehanna River Celebration: Mark Your Calendar!
Harrisburg, PA-Bring your family to the Susquehanna River
Celebration for some fabulous family fun. Mark your calendar because
you won't want to miss the talking Volkswagen Beetle, the professional
puppet show, the musicians, the live snake show or the guided riverboat
cruise. This year's Celebration takes place on Saturday, June 5, from
11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Harrisburg's Carousel Pavilion on City Island.
The event will be held rain or shine and admission is free.
While the event's theme, We All Live Downstream, primarily focuses
on celebrating the progress made toward improved local and downstream
water quality, the festival will be brimming with fun and entertainment
for all ages. A diverse assortment of activities for both children and
adults will range from face-painting to recycling and water conservation
information. Also taking place will be an assortment of audience-participation
activities, live animals and children's programs.
National recording artist Ray Owen returns to entertain the young and
young at heart with his one of a kind musical act. "The BugMobile,",
a traveling, interactive exhibit designed to increase public awareness
on minimizing the effects of pesticides on human health and the environment,
will also be at the festival. Throughout the day Otto the Otter, the
clean water mascot, mingles with the crowd while Buttons the Clown hosts
a variety of children's games. The Puppet Factory will also entertain
with a live puppet show. New for this year, join two local naturalists
for a guided ride aboard the Pride of the Susquehanna Riverboat (discounted
tickets will be available for this activity).
A number of local craft vendors will be on hand offering garden items,
bath products and hand carved items.
The River Celebration also features a concession area offering a number
of tasty treats. Funnel cakes, sausage and steak sandwiches are available,
along with iced tea and fresh-squeezed lemonade.

The event is co-sponsored by the PA Chesapeake Bay Education Office
(administered by the Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts,
Inc.), the City of Harrisburg, and The River 97.3 WRVV. Financial
support for the event is provided through an education grant with the
Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
