Susquehanna River Celebration: Mark Your Calendar!

Harrisburg, PA-Bring your family to the Susquehanna River Celebration for some fabulous family fun. Mark your calendar because you won't want to miss the talking Volkswagen Beetle, the professional puppet show, the musicians, the live snake show or the guided riverboat cruise. This year's Celebration takes place on Saturday, June 5, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Harrisburg's Carousel Pavilion on City Island. The event will be held rain or shine and admission is free.

While the event's theme, We All Live Downstream, primarily focuses on celebrating the progress made toward improved local and downstream water quality, the festival will be brimming with fun and entertainment for all ages. A diverse assortment of activities for both children and adults will range from face-painting to recycling and water conservation information. Also taking place will be an assortment of audience-participation activities, live animals and children's programs.

National recording artist Ray Owen returns to entertain the young and young at heart with his one of a kind musical act. "The BugMobile,™", a traveling, interactive exhibit designed to increase public awareness on minimizing the effects of pesticides on human health and the environment, will also be at the festival. Throughout the day Otto the Otter, the clean water mascot, mingles with the crowd while Buttons the Clown hosts a variety of children's games. The Puppet Factory will also entertain with a live puppet show. New for this year, join two local naturalists for a guided ride aboard the Pride of the Susquehanna Riverboat (discounted tickets will be available for this activity).

A number of local craft vendors will be on hand offering garden items, bath products and hand carved items.

The River Celebration also features a concession area offering a number of tasty treats. Funnel cakes, sausage and steak sandwiches are available, along with iced tea and fresh-squeezed lemonade.

Games for the kids, exhibits, music, crafts, good food…what better way to spend quality family time than during the Susquehanna River Celebration? Mark your calendar today! For more information call (717) 238-7223.

The event is co-sponsored by the PA Chesapeake Bay Education Office (administered by the Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts, Inc.), the City of Harrisburg, and The River 97.3 WRVV. Financial support for the event is provided through an education grant with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
