PA Chesapeake Bay Education Office Announces 2002-2003 Mini-Project Grant Recipients

The Pennsylvania Chesapeake Bay Education Office has recently announced the projects approved for the 2002-2003 Pennsylvania Chesapeake Bay Mini-Project Program. The Mini-Project Program provides up to $1,000 in financial support to grassroots educational efforts that help to promote the theme, We All Live Downstream.

The funded projects are:

  • Bedford Conservation District (Bedford County): Integrated Pest Management and the Chesapeake Bay

  • Bedford High School (Bedford County): Chesapeake Bay Watershed - Biodiversity Study of Freshwater Mussels

  • Blair Conservation District and the Federation of Fly Fishers - Little Juniata Chapter (Blair County): Little Juniata River Chapter Newsletter Education and Outreach

  • Centre Conservation District (Centre County): Streambank Fencing and Grazing Tour

  • Fulton Conservation District (Fulton County): Farm City Tours: Increasing the Knowledge and Awareness of the Chesapeake Bay Program

  • Fulton Conservation District (Fulton County): Second Annual Fulton County Water Resources Forum

  • Huntingdon Area Middle School (Huntingdon County): Local Watershed Studies/Assessments

  • Indiana Conservation District (Indiana County): Public Awareness, Chesapeake Bay Headwaters

  • The Eastern Pennsylvania Coalition of Abandoned Mine Reclamation (Luzerne County): EPCAMR 3-D Display of Mine Drainage in a Mine Pool

  • Schuylkill Conservation District (Schuylkill County): Non-point Source Pollution Education Program for Schuylkill County

  • Snyder Conservation District (Snyder County): Snyder County Farmer's Winter Meeting

While the participating organizations have each taken their own unique approach to improving water quality, their objectives are one in the same. Each project will expand awareness about the problem of nonpoint source water pollution in Pennsylvania, demonstrate the value of soil and nutrient saving practices, and encourage target audiences to take action to reduce nonpoint source pollution, locally and downstream in the Chesapeake Bay.

The Mini-Projects Program, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Chesapeake Bay Education Office, is administered by the Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts, Inc. Funding for the project is provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection's Chesapeake Bay Program.
