PACD Accepting Nominations for 2004 Awards Program

PACD is now accepting nominations for the 2004 PACD Conservation Awards, the PACD Poster Contest and the Chesapeake Bay Clean Water Farm Award.

PACD Conservation Award Categories:

Ann Rudd Saxman Conservation Award
Presented to individuals who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to the conservation of Pennsylvania's natural resources. Accomplishments at the local, state and national levels are eligible for entry.

Annual Report of the Year Award
The district annual reports will be judged on the following criteria: Appearance, composition, content and completeness.

Conservation Educator of the Year Award
Any teacher in public, parochial and private schools across Pennsylvania who has demonstrated a strong commitment to conservation education programs and activities in kindergarten through twelfth grade is eligible to receive this award. Candidates must have been actively teaching during the current school year and responsible for an outstanding conservation education program during the present and preceding school year. (Teachers specializing only in environmental education are not eligible for this award).

Conservation Farmer of the Year Award
Presented to a farmer who has furthered conservation through the establishment and maintenance of soil, water, and nutrient management practices. Eligible farmers must have a conservation plan approved by the local conservation district.

Conservation Organization of the Year Award
Presented to an organization that has made a noteworthy contribution to the conservation of Pennsylvania's soil, water and related natural resources.

Elected Official Recognition Award
This award is presented to an elected official who has consistently supported conservation issues and has made outstanding contributions to the conservation of Pennsylvania's natural resources.

M.K. Goddard Forest Resource Management Award
This award is presented to a private, non-industrial woodland owner who: (1) has a written woodland management plan in operation for at least five years; (2) has demonstrated the wise use of their forest resources and avoided any serious departure from accepted forestry practices; and (3) is a conservation district cooperator.

William Lange Urban Conservation Award
This award is presented to an individual or organization that has made a unique and outstanding contribution to the conservation of natural resources in an urban area of Pennsylvania.

PACD Poster Contest:

The PACD poster contest, open to students in grades K-12, offers young people an opportunity to express their views on natural resource issues through the medium of art. Students' submissions are judged in five age categories according to creativity, simplicity, clarity of message and quality in relation to grade level. The NACD Poster Contest theme for 2004 is "The Living Soil." PACD will also accept posters that address the 2004 National Wildlife Week theme which has not yet been announced.

Pennsylvania Chesapeake Bay Clean Water Farm Award
The Clean Water Farm Award Program recognizes Pennsylvania farmers, with operations within the Susquehanna and Potomac River Basins, whose exemplary farm management practices result in improved local and downstream water quality. The Clean Water Farm Award Program is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Chesapeake Bay Education Office (administered by the Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts, Inc.).

The PACD Conservation Award nominations and Chesapeake Bay Clean Water Farm Award nominations are due February 28, 2004. The Poster Contest and Annual Report entries are due May 30, 2004. Nomination forms are available on the PACD website at http://www.pacd.org/about/award_progr.htm.
