News & Notes February 2002NACD Legislative Conference Slated for March 17-19 The National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) has scheduled its 2002 Spring Legislative Conference for March 17-19 in Washington, D.C. The Legislative Conference is an annual event that brings conservation leaders from across the nation together to interact with policy and decision makers on issues related to conservation on private, working lands. Attendees will also receive instruction on how to effectively maintain these contacts throughout the year. Conservation funding issues and the Farm Bill will be the chief agenda topics for this year's conference. In addition, NACD will provide tips and tools to help strengthen the conservation districts' grassroots system. The conference will be held at the Hotel Washington, located within walking distance of the White House and Capitol Hill. The deadline for registration is Feb. 19, 2002. District personnel interested in attending can contact the PACD office at 717-238-PACD (7223) to receive a copy of the registration form, or contact the NACD directly at 202-547-6223 to request conference information. PACD Completes Water Resources Directory Reprint The Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts, Inc. (PACD) has just completed a reprint of the Pennsylvania Water Resources Directory - a compilation of resources that can be used to enhance audience understanding about topics related to water quality and watersheds. The Water Resources Directory includes contact groups from various state and national agencies who produce water-related materials relevant to Pennsylvania audiences. The directory is particularly useful for environmental educators, watershed specialists or other outreach and education specialists. Topics in the directory include: watersheds, pollution and pollution prevention, the Chesapeake Bay, fish and fishing, and agriculture, among others. PACD will distribute copies of the directory during the upcoming Legislative Conference in Grantville, March 11-13. A quantity of 25 directories will be brought for each conservation district. Districts should arrange for either a staff person or director to pick up their directories, or make arrangements for a Field Representative or other regional partner to pick up their directories. In the meantime, an updated version of the Water Resources Directory is available on the PACD website, www.pacd.org, and may be found under the "Educational Resources" menu. |
