Hybrid Vehicles to be Showcased at River Celebration
Harrisburg, PA-As gas prices soar at the pumps, interest in transportation
alternatives seem to increase. Hybrid vehicles, powered by electric/gasoline,
are not a George Jetson fantasy-they are here at a car dealer near you
and more and more people are taking a look at them. Are hybrids very
different from their conventional counterparts? How do they ride? How
do they handle? You can get answers to these and other questions on
June 5 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the Susquehanna River Celebration,
being held at Harrisburg's Carousel Pavilion.
To support its We All Live Downstream theme, two hybrid vehicles
will be showcased during the Celebration: the Toyota Prius, named Motor
Trend magazine's 2004 Car of the Year, and the Honda Civic. Not only
do the Prius and Civic offer exceptional gas mileage but they produce
lower emissions as compared to many conventional vehicles. Improved
air quality, in turn, often means improved lake and stream water quality.
Representatives from Bobby Rahal Honda and Bobby Rahal Toyota both of
Mechanicsburg, PA, will be on hand to answer questions and let you look
under the hood and sit inside the vehicles.

Checking out the hybrid vehicles is only one activity to enjoy while
at the Susquehanna River Celebration. Numerous other exhibits, along
with music, puppet shows, games, crafts, animals and food are scheduled
for the Celebration. For instance, if you enjoy the water, why not plan
on taking a guided tour onboard Pride of the Susquehanna Riverboat at
3 p.m.? While the Susquehanna River Celebration is free, tickets must
be purchased for the Riverboat tour.
The Celebration, held rain or shine, is co-sponsored by the PA Chesapeake
Bay Education Office (administered by the Pennsylvania Association of
Conservation Districts, Inc.), the City of Harrisburg, and The River
97.3 WRVV. Financial support for the event is provided through an education
grant with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection's
Chesapeake Bay Program. For more information call (717) 238-7223 or
