News & Notes June 2001PACD Researching Potential Building Site For the past several months, the PACD has been actively researching a potential building site, located in downtown Harrisburg. During the March Meeting of the PACD Executive Council, PACD Second Vice President Jarrett Miller provided a detailed presentation highlighting the proposed building. Miller presented Council with figures outlining the projected revenue and costs over the course of a 20-year mortgage period, as well as the requirement to pursue short-term fundraising/contributions while implementing a long-term Capitol Campaign. Mr. Miller explained that the building is centrally located, providing easy access for incoming visitors. The building is located within blocks of the State Capitol, and the Rachel Carson State Office Building, which houses the PA Department of Environmental Protection and PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Also nearby, are a number of hotels and restaurants, parking garages, and the Harrisburg transportation center (serviced by both Amtrak and Greyhound). It was noted that this building would be able to accommodate the Association’s future growth, while providing a source of revenue as well. Following Mr. Miller’s breakdown of the building options, Council voted to approve the continued pursuit of the downtown site because of its potential ability to serve the current and future needs of the PACD. Presently, the value of the PACD Building Fund is more than $65,000. The PACD Executive Board has identified the need to have an in-hand commitment of no less than $160,000 in the Fund prior to entering into a formal sales agreement. The Executive Board has invited each county conservation district to pledge at least $2,000 so that the Association can aggressively negotiate the building site. PACD asks that the pledge forms be submitted by June 30, 2001.
