NACD Provides "Ideas" For District Leadership

Conservation district personnel are asked to be on the lookout for "Ideas of the Month," an informative service provided by the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD).

Ray Ledgerwood, NACD Director of Leadership Services, said, "Ideas of the Month" typically spotlights conservation district efforts relative to leadership services, such as capacity building, organizational development and training. NACD tries to single out programs that have the potential to be useful for conservation districts, nationwide.

The program was launched in 1998 and has previously showcased topics such as the Natural Resources Conservation Service's "Leader in You," Workload Analysis, Effective Meetings, and most recently, "Dealing Your District a Perfect Hand for Success," featuring results of the NACD District Operation Committee Forum.

NACD distributes the "Ideas of the Month," to statewide leaders of the Conservation Partnership via e-mail and fax. The "Ideas" will then be forwarded to Pennsylvania's conservation districts, via e-mail, from PACD Executive Director Susan Fox.

NACD is also planning to have the "Ideas" posted on their website: www.nacdnet.org sometime in the near future.

The Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts, Inc. (PACD) will host its annual Silent Auction during the upcoming 2002 PACD/SCC Joint Annual Conference. Bidding for the Silent Auction will open at 8 a.m., Monday, July 22 and close promptly at noon, Tuesday, July 23.

Proceeds from the Silent Auction are contributed to the PACD Building Fund. Conservation districts and their statewide partners are encouraged to donate an item for the auction. Last year, PACD received donations from nearly 30 different contributors, including a number of antiques, crafts and food items with a local flare. More than $1,000 was raised for the Building Fund during the 2001 auction alone.
