PA Wins Awards at NACD Annual Meeting

During its annual meeting in Atlanta, NACD announced that Pennsylvania had two winning students in the 2004 NACD National Conservation Poster Contest. Mark Frederick of Altoona Central Catholic School, won the first place prize for the 2-3rd grade category. Mark's poster was submitted by the Blair County Conservation District. Emily Rose McKenna of Norwood School, won the first place prize for the 4-6th grade category. Emily's poster was submitted by the Delaware County Conservation District. The contest provides kindergarten through 12th grade students an opportunity to share their thoughts about natural resources and related issues through art. Mark and Emily will receive a savings bond provided by the NACD Auxiliary. Congratulations!

Employee Management Seminars

The Lancaster County Conservation District is hosting four Employee Management Seminars throughout the state this spring. These workshops are sponsored by Building for Tomorrow, a Leadership and Professional Development Program for Pennsylvania's Conservation Districts and are a "must attend" event for every district manager and district director who is interested in helping their district operate legally, efficiently, and effectively. Even if you have attended seminars in the past, plan on attending the 2005 workshop as there are important updates and new information to learn.

Some of the topics to be covered include state and federal laws governing employment, compensation and overtime issues, privacy issues and more. All four seminars will run from 9:30am-3:00pm. There is no fee for this workshop but registration is required. Breaks and lunch will be provided for registrants. Call the Lancaster County Conservation District at (717) 299-5361 for a registration form or visit PACD's website, http://www.pacd.org/events/employeemgmt.htm.
