Headquarters Building Update

Renovations have begun on the building the Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts, Inc. (PACD) purchased recently to serve as its new headquarters. The Association plans to complete a list of construction upgrades to meet staff needs in a manner that maintains the building's integrity prior to occupying the space this summer.

Building renovations involve improving the overall work environment. Replacement lighting, windows and plumbing fixtures will address energy efficiency and water conservation. Whenever practical, "green" building materials, such as flooring that is made from "natural" products, will be incorporated into the project.

PACD is excited about the numerous partnerships that are forming through this project. Marmoleum®, a biodegradable flooring made from natural ingredients - linseed oil from flax, wood flour, rosins, limestone, pigments and jute will be used extensively throughout the building. The product has been donated by Forbo Limoleum, located in Hazelton, PA. The product, a healthy "green" alternative, has recently been featured on a segment of the television program, This Old House. The linoleum will compliment the Shaw carpeting that will be installed in several offices and the conference room.

Weather Shield (locally distributed by Kohl Building Products of Mechanicsburg) is providing a discount for the replacement windows. The designer color finishes coordinate with the Sherwin-Williams color pallets that will be used in the project. R.F.Fager and Company of Camp Hill is working to address many of the project's plumbing and other fixture needs.

The PACD welcomes others who would like to support the project.
Donations, including kitchenette cabinetry, microwaves, refrigerators, and an apartment size stove, are needed. Monetary contributions will be used to help offset the building renovation and mortgage loans. Donations valued at $100 or more will receive permanent recognition in the building. Donations to the building fund can be sent to: PACD, 25 North Front Street, Harrisburg, PA 17101. Photos of the renovations are available on the PACD website, www.pacd.org.

Susan Fox Elected SCOFO President

PACD's Executive Director, Susan Fox, was elected President of the Pennsylvania State Council of Farm Organizations (SCOFO) at their annual meeting in March.

"As the number one industry in Pennsylvania, agriculture plays an integral role in Pennsylvania's economy. The SCOFO represents over 60 agricultural organizations that contribute to the success and prominence of this organization. I look forward to working with representatives from these organizations to continue to promote agriculture in Pennsylvania," said Fox.

the state.

Other officers elected include Vice President Jeff Fry of Pennsylvania Turfgrass Council and Secretary/Treasurer Dennis Schad of Land O'Lakes, Inc. The officers may serve up to two years in these leadership positions to advocate agriculture in Pennsylvania.

The SCOFO represents the broad spectrum of agriculture in Pennsylvania, from farm production, education, business services and the delivery of finished products to consumers. The organization advocates a constructive legislative agenda that protects and promotes the Commonwealth's agricultural interests.
