Attends & Presents at 85th Annual
PSATS Convention
PACD staff and volunteers attended the 85th Pennsylvania
Association of Township Supervisors (PSATS) Annual Convention &
Trade Show held in Hershey on April 22-24. Over 4,700 elected and appointed
township officials participated in educational workshops providing information
to help them better serve their constituents.
Conservation district partners presented a session titled County
Conservation Districts: Services for Townships. The panel included
Karl Brown, Executive Secretary of the Pennsylvania State Conservation
Commission (SCC), Susan Marquart, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania
Association of Conservation Districts (PACD), Marjorie Hughes, Chief,
Conservation District Support Section, PA Department of Environmental
Protection, and John Orr, Manager of the Dauphin County Conservation
District. The workshop provided real world examples of how conservation
districts and townships have worked together to
protect the environment and natural resources.
In addition to numerous educational workshops, township officials had
access to hundreds of exhibits. PACD sponsored a conservation district
booth in the main exhibit hall. PACD booth volunteers provided convention
participants with general information about conservation districts and
how districts are working with townships to help solve issues
related to water quality, including stormwater management.
Victor Cappucci, president of PACD, attended the County Conservation
Districts: Services for Townships workshop and also volunteered
at the PACD exhibit booth. I was very impressed with the number
of participants and the extent of information addressed at PSATS
300+ exhibitors along with dozens of workshops ranging in topic
from road maintenance and farming preservation to meth lab detection
and creating newsletters. The conservation workshop I attended was very
informative and the township participants were thankful for the environmental
partnering provided by their local county conservation district.
PACD thanks Victor Cappucci, PACD President, Lynette Gelsinger, Nutrient
Management Technician (Lebanon County), Irvil Kear, PACD Vice President
and Pat Sueck, NACD Director for giving their time and sharing their
knowledge with convention attendees.
