Pat Sueck Leads NACD Northeast Region Meeting

Conservation district officials and staff from the 12 northeastern states and the District of Columbia recently gathered at the NACD Northeast meeting in Teaneck, New Jersey to discuss issues around the theme, "Building a Conservation Program for the 21st Century."

Pat Sueck, National Association of Conservation Districts Northeast Region Chair (also PACD's NACD Director and a York County Conservation District Director) led the NACD Northeast Region Meeting held August 7-10, 2005.

There are several items of interest to report from the meeting.

1. Susan Marquart gave the State of the State report for Pennsylvania.
2. Sessions focused on how the Northeast region can leverage funds in the 2007 Farm Bill for urban renewal and urban interface projects. Each state provided a report on how they are working with the current Farm Bill program.
3. New Jersey staff explained their performance standards for their district supervisors (what we call district directors) who have to submit a self-assessment report to keep their position.
4. Dues from this region went to hire Deb Bogar and Marge Kilkelly to work on NACD issues for the Northeast Region.
5. Attendees from Pennsylvania enjoyed an interesting tour of Liberty State Park sponsored by the Northeast Association of Conservation District Employees.

While Pat Sueck was busy moderating sessions, Pennsylvania's other attendees (Susan Marquart, Molly Burns, Elmer Sueck, Jarrett and Sue Miller, Victor and Millie Cappucci, Wayne and Sharon Sweitzer, Harold and Dawn Kulp, and Jack and Sandy DeHoff.) paid close attention to details and logistics to get ideas for the 2006 meeting since Pennsylvania is the host. The 2006 NACD Northeast Region Meeting and 59th PACD/SCC Joint Annual Conference will be held concurrently July 23-27, 2006 at The Penn Stater, State College, PA. You are invited to join us at what promises to be a productive meeting.
