Rain Barrel Workshop
The district held a workshop to educate residents about the
impact of stormwater on a watershed and to promote the use
of rain barrels to capture rainwater and save it for later
use. Participants constructed their own rain barrels during
the workshop.
Note: The district had overwhelming interest in this workshop
when it first ran in May 2003.

Rain Barrel Workshop
The district held two workshops to engage the community and
raise understanding of watershed functions and the impact
of stormwater. During the workshops, participants learned
about the effects on the environment. They also built rain
barrels to capture stormwater, which can ameliorate existing
problems.

were constructed by a local high school Vo-Ag class using
reusable food grade barrels and parts from local hardware
stores.

Promote Groundwater Conservation by Using Rain Barrels
This project educated the public about groundwater conservation
through the use of rain barrels. The district purchased barrels
and provided instructions, educational information, and supply
packets for citizens to make their own barrels.
Note: The district began the rain barrel project as a pilot
program last year. It was an overwhelming success.

Do-It-Yourself Rain Barrel Kits to Promote Groundwater
Conservation
This project educated the public about groundwater conservation
and ultimately should reduce stormwater runoff to streams
through the use of rain barrels. Rain barrels capture and
store roof water runoff when it rains and allow the homeowner
to use the stored water later. The district purchased barrels
and provided instructions, educational information, and supplied
packets for citizens to make their own barrels. A small fee
was charged for the barrel and materials.
