Flood Summit
Description: Reduce nonpoint source pollution and improve
the Chesapeake Bay through providing a Flood Summit that covers

of NPS pollution, Chesapeake Bay, role audience plays in making
a positive difference, role stormwater/floodplain management
plays; Target audience improves stormwater/floodplain management
practices.

Landscaping with Native Plants for Birds, Butterflies,
and the Bay
This all-day workshop focused on ways to reduce non-point
source pollution and promote wildlife by planting native plants
around the home. Topics included the importance of native
plants, identification and control of common invasive plant
species, and landscape design and planting. Participants gained
hands-on experience planting a native landscape at the County
Agricultural Center.

The District held a workshop in March 2007 on nonpoint source
pollution targeting homeowners in the Mifflinburg area; they
produced a companion brochure which was distributed by the
local Kiwanis Club members to residents, and at the same time,
the Kiwanis installed four-inch markers on local stormdrains
informing residents that the drains lead to area waterways.
