Bedford County Watershed Forum
This annual event brings together local environmental groups to promote cooperation for resource management. This year the forum focus was a "Grants Fair" with presentations and displays from various granting organizations, and displays from firms that conduct watershed assessments. The goal was to enhance the ability of small watershed groups to obtain resources to implement stream and watershed improvement projects.

Third Annual Juniata Watershed Summit
The Partnership's annual summit educates, trains and empowers residents, community groups, municipalities, local business owners and teachers to participate in local watershed-related activities. This year's summit featured three tracks and varying topics: for residents and watershed groups - tools for the long-term success of grassroots organizations; for local government - municipal action plans for handling rural development, illegal dumping and other issues; and for educators - watershed education and the new state academic standards. The summit also included an overview of projects underway in each Juniata Watershed sub-basin.

Education and Outreach of the Community Stakeholders of the Piney Creek Watershed
Through publications, public meetings, displays, and promoting participation in a watershed assessment plan, the project educated residents on the importance of natural resources in their watershed and the impact of nonpoint source pollution.

Beckwith Creek Watershed Educational Outreach
This project reached out to the landowners and managers of a small watershed through a direct mailing and workshop with the purpose of educating them to the dynamics of the watershed. Landowners will have a better understanding of the unique characteristics of their home watershed as well as the universal characteristics of all watersheds, resulting in their better management of those characteristics.

Environmental Forums for an Alliance of Watershed Communities
Two workshop sessions, addressing key educational topics such as gravel bar information, soil erosion, grant writing and consensus building, were held. The workshops were attended by Endless Mountains area watershed associations, municipal officials and watershed stakeholders. Attendees learned about various techniques used to conduct stream assessments.

Nurturing Community Watershed Groups Workshop
A workshop was held on March 18, 2000 in Wysox, PA. Thirty-seven people attended, representing planning commissions, townships, boroughs, watershed associations, private landowners and students. Brochures and newsletters were sent out to seventeen area papers and distributed at meetings to publicize the event before the fact. Project coordinators said that participants seemed overwhelmed with the amount of information presented, but that they were provided with necessary knowledge regarding nonpoint source pollution problems in their area.

Beneficial Landscaping Techniques in Centre County Watersheds
With a target audience of homeowners, nursery personnel, landscapers, and others, the workshop addressed the role that landscaping can play in watershed protection. The workshop informed participants of ways to reduce sediment pollution, eliminate and/or reduce pesticide use, and minimize fertilizer pollution.

Landscaping for a Healthy Environment
The goal of the workshop was to help landscapers and local greenhouses understand the important role they can play in protecting watersheds. Specific topics included the importance of native plant species and the negative impact of invasive species; the water cycle and how chemical application affects groundwater; and the value of yard waste and composting.
