Little Conemaugh Watershed Community Education Project
The Little Conemaugh Watershed Association developed several educational
tools to help change local indifference toward and acceptance
of abandoned mine drainage (AMD) in the waterways. An information
packet, portable tabletop display and PowerPoint presentation
informed the public about AMD and other nonpoint source pollution
problems in the watershed, as well highlighting road and stream
trash cleanups, the county's Nutrient Management Program, and
clean water recreation. The materials also helped encourage involvement
with the watershed association and establish it as a knowledgeable
and reliable source of information.
